2018 was a busy year for NHLA with over 75 events, activities and programs offered throughout the state. Over 2500 members and guests attended these activities. Q1 is going to be really exciting and busy, too! The team at NHLA strives to bring the most relevant resources and events to our members.
Looking ahead we have many events already planned for Q1. Mark your calendars and watch for flyers coming out with more information.

We begin with the brand new Women in Lodging Read to Lead Book Club which will launch January 15. The program encourages women to join the club as we read leadership books and put the best practices from these books into our lives. More information.
On January 23, the Women in Lodging philanthropy committee will meet with leadership from the Embracing Project, a charitable organization that provides education and support for human trafficking victims. The committee will explore opportunities for the WIL division of NHLA to help this entity.

The WIL mentor winter session will start on January 29. Mentors and mentees may sign up to participate now. We will meet at Ricardo’s at 5:30 on January 29 to review the program and spend time with the assigned mentor or mentee to formulate a plan for the individual schedules. Participate.

The Horizons mentor program designed for our young professional members in the Next Reigning Generation will launch January 30. The mission of the NRG Mentor Program is to provide members with the opportunity to meet industry professionals who want to share their experience, knowledge and advice. Through the mentoring program NRG mentees receive guidance and support as they explore career enhancement and advancement. Participants will meet at the Panevino Lounge at 5:30 to meet their mentors or mentees and get an overview of the program. Sign up to participate in this dynamic program.
On February 11, the NNV leadership council will meet to discuss ideas for events and programs for 2019 for our Northern Nevada members.

Chandra Allison, SVP of Sales for Venetian/Palazzo, will host the Q1 Women in Lodging Leadership Chat in the Prestige Lounge. WIL members are encouraged to sign up for this opportunity to learn about Chandra’s career journey and discover her tips for success. Attendance is limited to the first 25 WIL members to register.

On February 27, NHLA will present a Certified Guest Service Professional (CGSP) workshop and exam. Members successfully passing the exam will receive a certificate from AHLA and a lapel pin. Register now, seating is limited. So far we have had over 100 people take the exam and receive their certificates. Great job!

Dale Carnegie of Nevada will present a one day conference on February 28 titled, “Leading an Engaged Workforce.” The morning will provide the following topics:

Luncheon keynote will be Cory McGuire, President of Dale Carnegie of Nevada. She will talk about “Achieving Breakthrough Engagement.”

Celebrating Northern Nevada’s Rock Stars industry awards luncheon will take place on March 1 at the Atlantis. NHLA is presenting the first annual awards luncheon to recognize the regional super stars for their outstanding contributions to their companies, the industry and their communities. Fun surprises are in store! Nominations will open January 10, 2019.
