Our guest blogger today is Eric Eisenberg, VP of Hospitality with Pürlin. He is going to describe the state-of-the-art processes and technology used for saving thousands of gallons of water and providing guests with clean, unused sheets.
In a paradigm shifting break with conventional bed linens that are laundered, Pürlin, via a high temperature melting process, is designed for 100% recycling after each bed change. Our bed linen solution assures hotel guests that they will never rest on used, communal sheets again. Pürlin sheets are soft, hypoallergenic, pH balanced, contain no detergent, bleach or chemicals and our Zero Laundry-Zero Waste® system will save millions of gallons of water and wastewater each year. Pürlin sheets are designed for comfort, our sheets feel equivalent to a 600-800 thread count and 100% recycled.
Substantial water savings
Producing Pürlin Sheets and Pillowcases will save tremendous amounts of water when compared to the lifecycle and manufacturing of cotton based linens. It takes 2800 gallons of water to produce one queen size cotton sheet, however, it takes less than a gallon of water to produce one queen size Pürlin sheet. When applied on the scale of a 300-room hotel, 10,800,000 gallons of water are required to manufacture the hotel’s standard 3-par cotton based sheet and pillowcase inventory. Comparatively, an equivalent 3-par Pürlin start up inventory requires just 980 gallons, saving over 10,799,020 gallons of water.
Once outfitted, this same 300-room hotel will use 4,200,000 gallons of water annually to produce, launder and manufacture the 25% replacement of inventory of their cotton-based sheets. In comparison, it takes approximately 45,000 gallons of water to make the Pürlin sheets necessary to supply the 300-room hotel for one year.
A customer rarely has the ability to dictate the processes used by a vendor, including whether or not the vendor is adhering to environmental standards. With in-house laundry services, a business can use the most environmentally-friendly alternatives available as far as utility consumption, soap, and additives. This can go a long way toward the sustainability and green initiatives.
Pürlin will help you to demonstrate the water and wastewater savings that can be achieved by implementing the Pürlin Zero Laundry-Zero Waste™ system, thus meeting or exceeding your published water reduction goals. The Pürlin team is committed to creating laundry-free linen products that protect the guest and promote Environmental Sustainability and Social Responsibility.
