With the cool winter season upon us, NHLA has several activities planned for members. The holiday season is busy; however, WIL members are not too busy to continue to be productive and a great resource for our industry and community.
The NHLA Women in Lodging group has over 175 members throughout the state. Membership consists of professional women from the NHLA member hotels and companies. These career women provide resources, networking, education and support for each other, the industry and the community.
Philanthropy: A key initiative
Several activities have been provided by and for WIL this year. We participated in several Dress for Success Southern Nevada events. We hosted and attended many professional seminars. WIL members ran donation campaigns for Shade Tree, Dress for Success and Noah’s Animal House. Members taught life skill classes for Shade Tree. We enjoyed networking events.
NHLA WIL mentor program huge success
The Women in Lodging mentor program is a huge success. Through the leadership of Mentor Program chairperson Shannon McCallum, we have managed three 12 week mentor sessions with a total of over 120 participants. The feedback on the program has been incredibly positive. The next session will begin in January, 2017.
Supporting our community in December
NHLA is hosting a business clothing and accessory donation drive for Dress for Success in Las Vegas at our December WIL luncheon. Go through your closets and donate gently used shoes, suits, skirts, tops, pants and jewelry. Bring the items to the luncheon and NHLA will ensure they are transported to the boutique at DFS. Every item helps a woman in our community who is rebuilding her life and working towards independence with a productive and fulfilling job or career. Let’s help!
January in Reno
Women in Lodging event planning is underway for 2017 with the first being held at the Atlantis on January 25. Guest speaker Claudia Vecchio, Director at Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, will discuss plans for the new year. Attendance will include a continental breakfast. Register.
