NHLA WIL presents great opportunities for members
The Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association Women in Lodging chapter holds regular social events, seminars and community philanthropic efforts. NHLA WIL has grown substantially since its launch in Q1 2015 with nearly 190 members at this time. Any female with a member company of NHLA is welcome to join.
NHLA WIL has two powerful committees that are comprised of leaders throughout our industry. The mentor program, chaired by Shannon McCallum, Executive Director of Hotel Operations at the Aria, had a very successful winter session with over 30 participants. Women looking to advance or expand their careers can sign up as a mentee and will then be paired up with experienced women in the industry for a 12 week session.
The mentor committee provides follow-up, guidance and resources to ensure everyone has a productive and beneficial experience in the program. Certificates of Completion are awarded at the conclusion of the session. The next WIL session will begin July 7; sign up to be a mentor or a mentee now. If you would like to be on the WIL mentor committee, please contact us.
WIL philanthropic committee is very active
NHLA WIL also has a philanthropy committee led by Mary Giuliano, General Manager of Vdara, and Diane Gandy, NHLA President. The committee works closely with The Shade Tree and Dress for Success Southern Nevada. We welcome new committee members, contact us for more information.
Many donation drives have successfully taken place for both entities as well as special events. Volunteers from NHLA WIL participated in the “Shop for Success” fundraising sale for Dress for Success Southern Nevada recently. WIL members have also donated many containers of accessories, shoes, and handbags to The Shade Tree and Dress for Success over the past few months.
NHLA and NvRA present 2016 Hospitality Bowling Tourney
The annual Hospitality Bowling Tournament will take place on July 27 at the Orleans Bowling Center with proceeds benefiting The Shade Tree. Play or sponsor or do both to help the abused women, children and pets in our community.
NNV WIL philanthropic projects
WIL council member representing Northern Nevada, April Kemper, has teamed our group up with the Committee to Aid Abused Women in Reno. The Women in Lodging members in Northern Nevada will have an opportunity to provide resources and donations for this important entity and the women in the community. A NHLA WIL luncheon will be held in December with requests for donations needed at that time. Watch for more information in coming months.
