How important is a mentor program?

Think back to how you began in your career. Did you have a mentor? If you did, you know the value of a mentor sharing his or her expertise and guidance. If you didn’t, you will surely remember how challenging and perhaps difficult it was navigating your way at the start, perhaps for several years. NHLA Women in Lodging is proud of the robust mentor program that has been developed over the past year and a half.

The 2017 theme for NHLA Women in Lodging is “Professional Women Inspiring All Women”…and what a great way to do so by engaging in the mentor program.

Inspiring women

NHLA Women in Lodging (WIL) launched its mentor program in mid-2015. A winter session as well as a summer session, each consisting of 12 weeks, is offered.

The program pairs women mentors in the hospitality industry with female mentees. The participants register online and receive notification of the pairings and the meeting to introduce everyone and get started.

Success at its best with the mentor program

mentorshipSince the launch, WIL has had three very successful mentor program sessions with approximately 100 participants. Led by WIL Chairperson Shannon McCallum and her committee members in 2015, the program developed into a productive, educational and fun activity for WIL members.

Mentor program summer session scheduled

The 2017 winter mentor session kicks off on Thursday, January 19. Participants are excited to get started and looking forward to a mutually beneficial experience.

The 2017 summer mentor session will start on July 19. Members interested in being a mentor or mentee may sign up at any time.
